Chapter 34
Dishang Huai had finally acquired the Gem of Eternity.
He was eager to return but as soon as he set foot on the land of Bifa Continent, he heard rumours about the Olay Empire.
The nearest teleportation magic circle was in a capital city thousands of miles away. Even with their carriage moving at full speed, it would take half a day to get there.
"Stop the carriage," he ordered.
A nagging feeling told him he couldn't wait. He had to get back as fast as possible, back to his princess.
Sherry's big, beautiful eyes blinked in surprise. But she obediently brought the carriage to a halt, and as clever as she was, she didn’t say a word.
Dishang Huai bit his right index finger; with his blood as ink and the ground as parchment, he quickly drew a massive space magic circle on the ground.
A huge pillar of light shot up into the sky as he silently thought of that person in his heart, lifting his head slightly—a magic circled sealed with blood would immediately teleport him to the one he had in mind.
However, he was still a step too late.
Or more accurately, he was five years too late.
When he arrived, he could only watch helplessly as his princess collapsed, his face contorted in pain.
The suddenness of it all caused an uproar.
Dishang Huai moved faster than anyone else, catching Ding Sheng in his arms before he hit the ground. He grabbed his hand and sent his overwhelming magic into the other party's body without holding back.
But it was to no avail.
The Lich King, whom he had stationed in the Olay Empire to monitor the situation also appeared with a flash, his voice dry and ancient beneath his grey hood.
"Master, this is Hellfire's Touch," He said, "There is no antidote."
Dishang Huai raised his head and looked at him, his eyes now bloodshot.
The Lich King subconsciously took a step back. He continued, "Right now, the only thing we can do is seal His Highness with ice magic, then search for the antidote to this poison."
Dishang Huai was stunned for a moment.
Ding Sheng could feel the immense magic flowing into him, helping to suppress the intense, burning pain within his body. He opened his blurry vision to see a familiar yet unfamiliar face.
"Dishang…"
He had really become more handsome. That night, because he had been intoxicated by the Demon God's blood, he hadn’t had the chance to take a good look.
He didn’t like the protagonist from the original story, nor did he trust that Dishang Huai.
But he instinctively trusted the Dishang Huai before him.
This was the Dishang who had taught him how to draw magic circles in the library, who had clumsily warmed him with a simple fire spell during the ceremony, who quietly followed him, patient and indulgent of everything he did.
The Dishang he knew.
Men don't shed tears easily, only when it’s truly unbearable.
Ding Sheng could not help but cling tightly to Dishang Huai’s neck, closing his eyes as he whispered, "Dishang, it hurts…"
Dishang Huai held him close and pressed his lips together.
Even more powerful magic flowed into Ding Sheng’s body.
Dishang Huai gently stroked his hair and placed his hand over his eyes.
"I know, Your Highness.
"Bear with it for a while, just for a while.
"Trust me, I promise."
Ice magic burst forth, instantly encasing Ding Sheng in a layer of frost, and he lost consciousness.
Dishang Huai carefully handed Ding Sheng to the Lich King and Sherry to look after, before lifting his gaze to face the chaos in front of him.
His eyes slowly scanned the crowd before settling on the chairman of the Holy Order.
Then, a small smile tugged at his lips, his jet-black eyes unfathomable.
Dishang Huai dropped to one knee, supporting himself with his right hand on the ground, yet he lifted his head with an air of extreme arrogance. His dark hair floated as if stirred by an invisible wind.
He declared, "The insults of the past, the sins of deceit, the hatred of taking my beloved… Dishang Huai will settle all of it, one by one."
The entire space was instantly plunged into utter darkness and chaos, with countless huge silver pentagrams rising from beneath his feet, instantly engulfing the entire area.
This was the absolute domain of the Demon God's successor.
Even the chairman of the Bifa continent, the most powerful mage of the Bifa continent, was powerless against it.
Amidst the curses and despair of those around him, Dishang Huai lifted his head.
A single tear slid down his left cheek.
He thought wrong. He shouldn’t have trusted anyone to protect his princess.
He shouldn’t have entrusted him to anyone.
