Prologue Ressurection Ritual
——And so, I awakened.
It was as if my eyes were covered with a layer of fog as a blurry vision of a room made of stone reflected in my eyes. The walls were lined with shelves of books and there was a magic circle drawn in red on the floor.
Up until this point, I couldn’t see or feel anything. It was as if my mind and consciousness had restarted from zero, like waking up from a dream, but something more drastic.
It felt as if I had been dug out from the pits of hell.
Or as if I was pulled out of deep slumber.
Vision, hearing, smell——my five senses were flooded with an overwhelming amount of information, making it difficult to process.
At the height of my confusion, someone spoke up in a hoarse voice,
「So you’ve awakened… It seems you have a gift… Fleshman.」
I turned my head to the voice that permeated through my brain, and for the first time, registered that I was lying atop a table.
The voice came from an old man clad in dark robes. His grim features were covered in a myriad of wrinkles. One couldn’t help but wonder how many years he’s lived. There was also a gleam in his gloomy eyes that gave one the impression that he’s not weak.
His body was like a bag of bones and in his hand was a staff with a terribly twisted design.
I couldn’t quite understand what was happening nor could I grab ahold of the situation. All I could do was stare at him in confusion as the man simply continued as if my lack of response was only natural.
「My name is Holos Carmen. Mysterious Challenger. I am a Mage and also your Lord. ‘Kneel’ Fleshman.」
The instant I heard that, the moment that sound stimulated my eardrums, a strange sensation filled my body.
My body started moving against my will. I slowly got up from the table like a baby learning to walk. Then, it bent over and knelt to the ground regardless of my will. By the time I came back to my senses, I was already on the ground with my head lowered to the Lord standing before me.
It was then that I noticed the smell of mould and the grey stone floor.
Despite the lack of light, my vision was clear as day.
It was discomforting. Starting off with a sense of incongruity, I tried to piece together the little bits of information I could gather. As my brain all the information from my surroundings, I also tried to recall my memories.
Suddenly, I felt something knocking on my head. Although I could feel the impact, there was no pain. No, not only that——I didn’t even have my ‘usual’ heartbeat. Even the headaches that felt like my head was being churned with a sword, that wouldn’t go away despite taking painkillers. Or the pain that felt as if my innards were melting and rotting away. The pain that plagued my every waking moment. It was as clear as a freshly sharpened blade.
This may sound strange but in that instant, I felt normal for once.
In that moment, I understood a human’s feelings for the first time.
While I was in a daze at my surprising new findings, Lord Holos’s voice came from above.
「Fleshman. My servant. One who had returned from the Underworld. O nameless one, I shall grant you a name.」
——Nameless one.
You’re wrong, I do have a name. One that was given to me at birth by my parents, although hardly anyone calls it as of late.
However, just before I uttered those thoughts, I stopped myself.
It was just an intuition I had, that I shouldn’t mention it now.
Though it was perhaps a bad habit from my long-suffering and unaccomplished life. I kept silent as the Lord gave me a name.
「Your name is End. For the one who has reached the end. My Necromancy has granted you transient life.」
Transient life.
Necromancy.
Even for someone like me who never went to school and had limited knowledge, I knew what that meant. A person who controls the dead, a terrifying Dark Mage.
The words came straight into my head.
Then, I understood. I understood everything. Putting together my memories and the words I had just heard, anyone could easily understand.
I had died. And by the evil magic of the man standing before me, I have awakened once more.

Yayy a teaser for a work by my favourite(?) author (๑╹ω╹๑ ) Since this is by the same author as Daraku no Ou and Nageki no Bourei, if you have read and enjoyed those or other works by the author, I think you'll like this as well.
As much as I hope to translate this work, the chapters are a little too long for me to handle with all the other projects I'm working on now so just a teaser. I'll post Chapter 1 soon hopefully someone will pick this up ^3^
Please feedback to me in the comments below if you find any typos or terrible grammar, etc that you think I should change. Or maybe you think my interpretation is completely off lol Help me help you have a better reading experience ahahah what a tongue twister XD
Thank yous!! (˶‾᷄ ⁻̫ ‾᷅˵)

omg thank so muuch!! I saw the manga and this story looks very interesting
ReplyDeleteomg, same... I have been watching the manga (which only has a couple of chapters!!) like a hawk and can't believe you're translating the story, yay!! I hope you enjoy translating this one and decide to stick with it! I seems like it has so much potential! The only word I saw was "the smell of mould" which should probably be "the smell of mold". ; )
ReplyDeleteI did a quick check and 'mould' is british spelling while 'mold' is american so they both work. This is only a teaser, hopefully someone will pick this up ahahaha
Deleteand thus, I learn something new! And darn, I was hoping you'd grab it since your translations are awesome.... *goes off to draw in the dirt with a stick*
