ARBE Chapter 29

Chapter 29

After amassing considerable strength, Dishang Huai infiltrated the Lich Alliance in search of a way to break Kris' curse.

After a perilous process, he successfully subdued the entire Lich Alliance. Or rather, it might be more accurate to say he reclaimed them—after all, the Lich clan was originally servants of the Demon God.

The current Dishang Huai was no less accomplished in curses than the Lich King.

He could clearly see that the curse placed on Kris would fully dissipate in two months. He also realised that what the chairman of the Holy Order of Sanduas had said all those years ago was nothing but a deception.

Even if it was only two months left, he still couldn’t put his mind at ease. The memory of the little princess' pitiful appearance from being tormented by the curse—his face all pale as he lay in bed, staring listlessly at him, his usually rosy lips having lost their lustre—haunted Dishang Huai.

Back then, as he walked out of the grand hall after breaking off the engagement, he had vowed to rid her of the curse.

Dishang Huai slipped into the palace as though it were his own home.

The princess' chambers were quiet and empty, the maids were keeping watch in the outer room—Kris never liked people watching him sleep.

Kris was instantly terrified when he saw Dishang Huai standing at the foot of his bed, clad in a black cloak with a cold expression on his face.

His face instantly went as pale as a sheet as he stammered, "Wh-What are you doing here…"

His eyes reddened just like in Dishang' Huai's dream.
But it was purely from fright.

Dishang Huai didn't say anything. He didn’t know how to explain.

He directly knelt one leg on the exquisite bed covered with plush, lace-adorned silk sheets and reached out to pull his princess into his arms, encasing him tightly in his embrace.

Kris curled up in his arms, extremely docile, without even a hint of struggle, but her body trembled slightly, like a frightened dove.  His crystal-clear violet eyes stared unblinkingly at Dishang Huai, with a tinge of alarm in them.

Dishang Huai looked down at him, his dark eyes filled with countless emotions. Ultimately, he pursed his lips together and produced a blue-violet rose, bringing it close to Ding Sheng’s nose.

Bloom of Worry-Free Dreams—a flower whose scent brought peaceful sleep.

Watching as the person in his arms immediately drifted into slumber, Dishang Huai narrowed his eyes and finally wrapped Ding Sheng tightly in his black cloak.
Holding his princess in his arms, Dishang Huai disappeared into the night once again.

Dishang Huai brought Kris back to his home, the Dishang Manor located in the capital of the Olay Empire, which had been under the care of the old butler and Cece over the years.

Dishang Huai carefully placed Kris on his bed. Her softly curled chestnut hair spread gently across the white sheets, her long lashes fluttering slightly as they drooped.  The warm yellow glow from the bedside magic lamp cast flickering shadows over her pure white lacy nightgown.

For a moment, it felt like a lifetime ago.

Back then, Kris would sometimes come over to look for him. One time, when he was too busy sorting through books and catalogues, she’d sit quietly nearby, not making a fuss. When she grew tired, she’d rest on his bed, falling asleep without even realising it. At that time, he remembered turning around to see her like that, and for a moment, he froze, unsure of what to do—he could only sit dumbfounded, waiting for the little princess to wake.

In order to remind himself of the humiliation he faced and push himself to work hard, Dishang Huai had always chosen a hardboard bed that provided no comfort. But after that day, he had laid the softest velvet mattress on it. Though the person who occupied his thoughts never rested there again.

As if he was worried about disturbing the sleeping princess, Dishang Huai gently sat down on the edge of the bed. He pulled Ding Sheng into his arms, supporting him with his right hand while his left summoned a sharp blade and slashed deeply into his own wrist.
Blood immediately gushed out.

He brought his wrist to Kris’ lips, coaxing him to drink the blood, bit by bit.

As the master of the Lich clan, the unsealed blood of the Demon God within him was the most potent cure to counteract and resist all curses.
As Kris swallowed the blood, Dishang Huai could feel the curse on him fading away, slowly dissipating until it vanished completely.
He was about to withdraw his wrist, but Ding Sheng relentlessly chased after it.

For a mortal like Kris, Dishang Huai’s blood was more intoxicating than the finest opium.

Dishang Huai frowned.

Stroking Ding Sheng's cheek which was still stained with a touch of blood, he whispered, "This isn't good for you, you shouldn't overindulge."

Ding Sheng nuzzled his face against Dishang Huai's palm. His violet eyes were now wide open, dazed and misty, filled with a pleading and appeasing—like a kitten seeking affection.

With his brows furrowed, Dishang Huai steeled himself and pulled away from him, standing up from the bed.

Unwilling to give up, Ding Sheng whimpered softly as he clung to him, wrapping his arms around Dishang Huai's neck as he murmured, "Dishang…"

Dishang Huai just stood there with his eyes closed before letting out a bitter smile as he offered his wrist once again.

He softly consoled, "Just a little… I can't give you any more…"
The blood of the Demon God; the original sin of temptation.

After having his fill, a small smile played on Ding Sheng lips before he, without warning, leaned forward and pressed his lips against Dishang Huai's
Dishang Huai was stunned.

"Your Highness, this is just the effect of the demon god’s blood. You’ll regret it.
"And so will I."

He looked into the eyes he’d dreamed of countless times and said slowly with a smile.
Then he leaned in, pinning him beneath him.

I just felt the need to clarify that I'm not changing Ding Sheng/Kris' pronouns based on my mood or leaving it to MTL lmaoo (。>﹏<)

When it is not specified i.e. the sentence doesn't contain "他/她" I will make use of my system: for characters who know Kris' real gender, I use "he/him"; for those who don't know, like Sanctus, I use "she/her". However, if it is specified, this system is thrown out the window and I translate according to the text (っ- ‸ - ς) Don't hit me ahahah

If you don't mind, it'd be nice if you can rate this novel on NU if you've enjoyed it so far!! ( ̧⸝⸝⍢⸝⸝)ෆ

Please feedback to me in the comments below if you find any typos or terrible grammar, etc that you think I should change. Or maybe you think my interpretation is completely off lol Help me help you have a better reading experience ahahah what a tongue twister XD
