Chapter 3
The book frequently describes the appearances of Kris and various other beauties who have had emotional entanglements with the protagonist, whether in love or hate.
Kris' description could be summed up as follows:
Dressed in elaborate and extravagant palace gowns, she had the elegant bearing of an esteemed royal; a proud, spoiled[1], domineering character; full of herself and looks down her nose at others[2]… She also had delicate and exquisite facial features like that of a rose in full bloom, with eyes as dazzling as violets.
However, such a beauty was in fact, really a boy.
According to Stuart, Kris was cursed at birth and had to dress as a girl until the age of twenty to fully rid himself of the curse before he can dress as a guy again. Moreover, he couldn’t let too many people know of his true gender during this period, otherwise, him cross-dressing would have no protection against the curse. The High Priest of the Olay Empire personally cast a concealment spell on him to obscure his gender. After so many years, the only ones who knew of this secret and are still alive are only the Emperor, Empress, the Emperor Emeritus[3], Stuart, and Kris himself.
Ding Sheng: "…Then why was I betrothed?"
Stuart: "…It’s a long story."
Ding Sheng: "Cut the long story short, Brother."
Stuart: " When our great-grandfather was on his deathbed, he was in a delirious state and often drifted in and out of consciousness, so he knew nothing of this issue. He genuinely thought that he had a great-granddaughter. Without consulting anyone, he made your engagement his dying wish in front of all the ministers as he breathed his last breath. As his descendants, what could we have done? Thankfully, the Dishang family has declined now, otherwise, it would be difficult to cancel the engagement."
Ding Sheng didn’t know how to respond to that.
Stuart sighed and lowered his head to ask him, "My little princess, haven’t we already reached a consensus on this matter before? Just what exactly do you see in that guy anyway for you to say something like this now?"
Ding Sheng thought for a moment before saying hesitantly, "His good looks?"
Stuart looked at him as if he were a monster.
1. Written as "娇气" which is used to describe someone who can't "suffer" and is easily hurt so like overly sensitive and to some extent weak?↩
2. Written as "唯我独尊" (I saw this one TL-ed as I alone am the honoured one) and "目中无人" (direct TL: unable to see anyone else) respectively. Basically, the author is just using whatever adjective you can find to describe her as arrogant which is to be expected since the original Kris is supposed to be an antagonist (and I mean she did grow up with everyone fawning over her)↩
3. The grandfather. The one who arranged the marriage is the great grandfather↩
If you don't mind, it'd be nice if you can rate this novel on NU if you've enjoyed it so far!! ( ̧⸝⸝⍢⸝⸝)ෆ

Okay, I guess even the Emperor & Empress couldn't do anything (at least on the surface-level). 😅
