S.C.I. Mystery Files Case 2 Chapter 36

Killer Training Camp - Chapter 36 Malingering

The morning sun shines brightly through the thin curtains and onto the milky white floor of the bedroom.

A crisp alarm sounded through the air, waking the man who was sound asleep.
Still half-awake, Gongsun frowned as he reached out a hand to turn off the alarm, but it stopped on its own before he could reach it.

His consciousness quickly grew murky once more—let’s sleep some a little more.
He slept particularly comfortably last night. As the calendar flips a page into November and the weather suddenly turned chilly, Gongsun who was afraid of the cold would often find himself being awoken from the cold. But for some reason, his blanket felt especially warm and so so soft last night~~ So comfy.

As Gongsun hugged the warm “thing” next to him and happily snuggled against it, he heard a sharp intake of breath come from that “thing”.
Then, a hot object appeared on his waist and started moving around, like it was stroking him gently. Hmm, it tickles.

Slightly annoyed, Gongsun squirmed around a little.

Then came another gasp.

His ear was enveloped in a sudden warmth before the wet touch which was accompanied by a burning breath gradually moved from his ear to his face and neck.

“Hnn…” Gongsun moaned softly, feeling a heat pressing against his lips when he slowly tried to open his eyes.

For Gongsun who had low blood pressure to begin with and would often be hit with dizzy spells when he woke up in the morning, this kiss made his entire world spin. When he finally processed what was happening, the other person had already undone his pyjamas, their hands slowly caressed Gongsun’s waist while they buried their head into his neck, kissing and licking passionately~~

“Ah~~” When that pair of misbehaving hands touched where it shouldn’t, any hint of sleep had finally been completely washed out of Gongsun’s system.

When he opened his eyes and looked up, he was greeted with the sight of Bai Jintang lying on top of him like a hungry wolf… while his clothes were dishevelled—he had obviously become breakfast for a certain someone~~

For Gongsun who was the violent-type when he just woke up, layers upon layers of murderous intent immediately covered his face.

“Bai Jintang!!” he roared angrily as he raised a foot in an attempt to kick that man off his bed. Unfortunately for him, that man was well-prepared. He grabbed Gongsun’s leg which flew towards his face and lowered his head to plant a kiss on it.

…With just that action, Gongsun felt as if his head had exploded as the heat travelled all the way from his ears to the soles of his feet…
However, Bai Jintang was clearly not done teasing him. With Gongsun’s ankle in his hand, he pulled it over his shoulder as he lowered his head to gently bite the base of the latter’s thigh. Although there was the fabric of the pyjamas between them, the soft delicate skin on his thigh could still distinctly feel the moist, burning heat coming from Bai Jintang’s mouth…

“W-What are you doing!!” Gongsun got a scare and desperately tried to pull his foot back. However, Bai Jintang held it tightly and refused to let go while the attack of his lips and teeth slowly moved downwards.

“No… You… Ah!” Gongsun was powerless and could only reach out to push Bai Jintang’s head away.

“Kuku~~” Bai Jintang had a devilish smile on his face, deliberately blowing his scorching breath against where Gongsun was most sensitive. “But you’re the one who clung onto me last night, saying it was cold and refused to let go. After using me as your heater all night, don’t you think you should at least treat me to a meal?” With that, he leaned in with an open mouth.

“Ah! …Stop~~ You~~”
“Be good~~”
“Yah… Ah~~nn…”

In the room next door, the twins dressed in Santa pyjamas were busy by the wall.
Da Ding was wiping the saliva leaking from the corner of his lips while staring at the intertwined figures displayed on the thermal imaging camera~~
And Xiao Ding wiped the blood from his nose while eavesdropping through high-powered wiretap with his body plastered to the wall~~

“Wow!! Just where is Boss kissing??”
“God, Gongsun’s cries are so sexy~~”
“Ah!! Boss’s actions are so bold!!”
“Oh oh oh~~ Such rhythmic pants!!”
“Oh my!! It’s clear to see that their temperature is constantly on the rise! Look! The colour went from yellow to red!!”
“Go, Boss!! By the sound of Gongsun’s breathlessness, he’s already running out of strength~~”
“Yeah! That’s right!! You’ve finally gotten to the rainbow at the end of the storm1 !! Just gobble him up right now!!”
“Yeah yeah!! Gongsun seems to be quite flexible and he has a great voice too~~”
“Bro, are you sure it’s okay for you to be having this many nosebleeds?”
“Oh no worries, you can just transfuse your blood to me when I need it!!”
“Oh yeah, we’re both type B!!”
“Hey! Boss stopped!!”
“No, how could he!! We’re only halfway through!!”
“Ah! He really stopped!!”
“He was this close to getting it done!!”

After Gongsun, who was half eaten by Bai Jintang finally recovered his strength, he ran straight for the bathroom and washed himself from head to toe.
He desperately scrubbed himself, scrubbing with all his might—scrub scrub scrub!!

“Damn pervert! Dirty ruffian! I’ll definitely kill you one day!! …”

Meanwhile, Bai Jintang made himself comfortable on Gongsun’s bed while relishing in the delicious breakfast he just had—Ah, he just couldn’t stop thinking about it~~

“Boss~~” The twins easily moved the wardrobe blocking the hole in the wall aside. “That was such a good chance!! Why didn’t you just force your way until the end??”

Bai Jintang cast a look of disdain at his two subordinates. “Ignorant. Let me tell you, men like Gongsun are like curry!”

“Oh~~? Please enlighten us!!” The twins humbly sought Bai Jintang’s teachings.

“Keke~~” Bai Jintang smacked his lips proudly. “It has to be stewed slowly, again and again for it to be flavourful enough!!”

“Oh~~~” The twins nodded admiringly. “Boss, that pot of curry is standing behind you.”

…!… Bai Jintang turned his head around sharply and was greeted with the sight of Gongsun standing behind him with a murderous look on his face and a bucket in his hand…

“Um, Gongsun! You need to calm down!!”

“Calm down?” Gongsun sneered, “I am very calm and now I’ll help you calm down as well!”

Then with a swing of his arms—splash~~~~
The twins meekly retracted their heads back from the hole and pulled the wardrobe back in place, but not without remembering to give Gongsun a big thumbs up as they said, “Well done! ~~Big sis-in-law!!”

Bang~~! The empty bucket flew at them and hit the wardrobe.

Gongsun’s face was flushed red with anger as he breathed heavily. When he turned around he saw a drenched Bai Jintang still smiling as brightly as ever. “You're sexiest when you're angry!!”

“Argh!!!” Gongsun darted into the kitchen before returning murderously with a kitchen knife. “I’m going to kill you! Kill you!!”

“Hahahaha~~~~”

Next door—the twins, Da Ding and Xiao Ding hid back under the covers again.

“Um, I think we should get Xiao Zhao to give Gongsun some counselling, otherwise, he'll be driven crazy by the Boss sooner or later!!”
“I think Boss is the one who needs the counselling. At this rate, he might be arrested by Xiao Bai!!”
“Arrested?? What for??”
“Sexual harassment!!”

After sending off the fuming Gongsun, Bai Jintang contentedly looked at his reflection in the mirror as he tied his tie.
“Boss, everything is ready.” The Ding twins reported.
“I'll go to the board meeting myself!” Bai Jintang told them as he turned around to grab his jacket, “You two go check something out.”

The twins exchanged a look. “Boss, you want to investigate the shooting case at the banquet?”

After putting on his jacket, Bai Jintang chuckled, “There’s someone who wants to give me a hard time2. We may be new here, but we can’t let anyone look down on us now.”

“Yes!” The Ding twins nodded their heads in agreement.

“Oh right!” Before leaving out the door, Bai Jintang turned around and added, “You two transfer a few of the more quick-witted subordinates back from overseas.”

“…!…” The twins were a little surprised by that order. “Boss?”

“Bai Jintang laughed, “ Don’t worry, it’s not for anything else. I just want them to protect Gongsun and Xiao Zhao from the shadows.”

“…Understood.”

9 AM at the conference room in the S.C.I Office.

The table was stacked with information from the sniper case and the red-light district slashing case.

All the members of the S.C.I. team had serious expressions on their faces.
Bai Yutang first introduced everyone to Bai Chí before going straight into the case.

“The assailant from yesterday is called Yang Feng, 19 years old, a chemistry student from M University,” Wang Chao read off from the document in his hand, “His father abandoned him when he was very young and his mother was a drug addict who died from overdose half a year ago. Three months ago, he started making his move near the red-light district; all the targets of his slashing were prostitutes and female drug dealers. And there’s also the case from yesterday.”

“I’ve checked his computer!” Jiang Ping said while rubbing his hand together and putting a laptop on the table, “He also received the email. Look!”

What greeted them on the screen was a short sentence:
The only one that can save them is you!

And the email was once again signed off as Killer Training Camp.

“The nature of this case needs to be redefined!” Bai Yutang looked at Zhan Zhao and prompted, “Your turn, Kitty.”

Zhan Zhao nodded and placed the lighter sealed in an evidence bag in the centre. “I had thought that this was just a relatively simple serial murder case but from the looks of it now, it’s most likely to be an organised crime.”

Bai Yutang concurred, “This Killer Training Camp seems to be exactly as its name states3 and is very likely an organisation which specialises in creating crime.”

“I don’t quite understand.” Zhao Hu raised his doubts while scratching his head, “Why though? I can’t see any motive behind it! There’s no relation between the victims either, if it’s a professional killer organisation, why are they only using rookies?”

“Speaking of victims, I found something very interesting!” As Jiang Ping said that, he swiftly pulled up a folder from Qi Lei and Yang Feng’s laptops.

“This is Qi Lei’s computer. Look!” Then, he clicked open the folder and in it was all the personal data of the victims, including Professor Wilson and Jon King.

“Hoh! It’s so detailed! It even has the age he removed his appendix??” Ma Han looked through the data and randomly opened a video. The screen was immediately filled with a scene of obscenity—a decrepit old man was rolling in the sheets with a young girl…

“What is this?” Wang Chao questioned as he looked at Jiang Ping.

“Ke, this old man is the second victim. He’s a famous businessman and philanthropist and this girl is one that he’s sponsoring4.”

“Monster!” Zhao Hu spat that word out. He calls that charity?!

“And that’s not all,” Jiang Ping continued, “the other two victims are exactly the same as him too, utter hypocrites!”

“What about Dr. Wilson and Jon King?” Zhan Zhao asked.

“That’s where it gets a little weird, Jiang Ping answered, “I’ve done the necessary technical analysis and the evidence against the other three victims were all real but the so-called crimes on Jon King and the old professor were all forged.”

“Forged?” Bai Yutang furrowed his brows.

“Jiang Ping nodded,” That’s right. The photos were all edited using a software and none of it is real.”

“What about Yang Feng’s computer?” Zhan Zhao asked hurriedly.

“It has a similar folder too!” Jiang Ping then opened the folder.

In that folder, they saw various articles about prostitutes and female drug dealers. There wasn’t any detailed information on the other victims, only Qi Le’s and a poster for the event yesterday.

Bai Yutang turned to Zhan Zhao. “Kitty, your professional analysis.”

Zhan Zhao nodded, “It’s clear to see that Qi Lei and Yang Feng both have something in common and that they have some form of personality disorder. Qi Lei has dissociative identity disorder while Yang Feng has paranoid personality disorder… Someone is using their characteristics to manipulate them into committing crimes.”

“Qi Lei used a sniper rifle while Yang Feng used knives and Molotov cocktails—these are all skills related to what they are good at!” Wang Chao said.

“Yeah!” Ma Han nodded as he added, “Qi Lei had learned how to shoot at the shooting club while Yang Feng is a chemistry student… These people really made good use of their potential.”

“Um…” Bai Chí who had been listening by the side this whole time, reached out and gave Zhan Zhao who was seated beside him a small tug on the shirt. Ever since they arrived at the S.C.I. office, little Bai Chí had been following Zhan Zhao like a puppy following its master, giving everyone else a timid look.

“What wrong?” Zhan Zhao turned to ask him.
“I… I’d like to speak…” Bai Chí said cautiously.

“Ke~~~~” The entire S.C.I. team was thoroughly amused by him while Bai Chí became even more timid when he saw everyone laughing at him.

“Go ahead,” Zhan Zhao responded, “I want to hear your opinion too.”

“…” Bai Chí’s face flushed red as he spoke with his head lowered, “That Qi Lei and Yang Feng are both students from M University… When their information had been leaked from the school’s database… we can hack into the database of the campus network to see who accessed information during that time…”

Bam! Jiang Ping suddenly slapped the table.
It gave Bai Chí such a big scare he almost bit his tongue as he subconsciously grabbed at Zhan Zhao’s sleeve.

“Good lad! Why didn’t I think of this before??” Jiang Ping jumped up and rushed for his computer. “It’s just some small campus network, I’ll hack right into it in ten minutes!!”

The crowd immediately looked at Bai Chí in a different light.

Zhan Zhao patted him on the back, saying, “Good job.”

“R-Really?” Bai Chí blinked in slight surprise before glancing timidly at Bai Yutang. When Bai Yutang smiled approvingly at him, Bai Chí immediately lowered his bright red face and fiddled with the hem of his shirt.

Seeing his actions, Zhan Zhao could not help but shake his head—it’s not easy being a child of the Bai family.

“Ma Han, how’s it going on your side?” Bai Yutang inquired.

“I went around the shooting club and attended a theory class; they really aren’t quite so simple.”

“Not simple?” Bai Yutang’s interest was perked.

“Though seemingly casual about it, the lecturers were all very deliberate in revealing some knowledge regarding sniping.” Ma Han answered, “Also, after getting your membership done, the gun used for practice was not an air gun but a real, lethal gun.”

Zhan Zhao and Bai Yutang looked at each other. Just as he was about to say something, they heard Jiang Ping shouting from outside the conference room behind his computer, “Captain! Captain! I’ve got something!”

The crowd rushed out in an instant.
Jiang Ping talked a little excitedly as he pointed at the computer screen, “After I got into the administrator program of the campus network, I found an ID that frequently accessed the data of those two people in the last six months.”

“Can you find out who it is?” A gleam of excitement flashed across Bai Yutang’s eyes.

“I just called the telco and they gave me a name.” As he said that, he handed the Bai Yutang the note with the name on it.

The moment Bai Yutang saw the name, he asked Zhan Zhao with a smile, “Kitty, sound familiar?”

Zhan Zhao looked over at the name on the note—Jia Zhengyan.

“The supervisor of Qi Lei’s class?” Zhan Zhao exclaimed in surprise.

“Keke…” Bai Yutang scoffed, “Qi Lei is his student so it’s no big deal for him to check his info, but Yang Feng has nothing to do with him at all, what is he looking at his information for?”

“Captain! We need to keep an eye on him!” Zhao Hu said.

Bai Yutang nodded in agreement, “Yes we do! But you’ve already been exposed. Wang Chao, Zhang Long, you two go!”

“Yes!”

“Then… what about me?” Zhao Hu asked anxiously.

“Hmm, you?” Bai Yutang grabbed him by the crown of his head and turned it in the direction of the reception room which Qi Le was in. “You’re in charge of keeping a close eye on this girl 24/7. She must know something if someone is out to silence her.”

The meeting quickly dispersed and everyone went about their business. Ma Han followed Zhan Zhao and Bai Yutang into the office and declared, “Captain, I have an idea!”

Bai Yutang looked at him and sighed, “You rascal, you’re thinking of going undercover at the shooting club, aren’t you?”

“Mhm!” Ma Han nodded his head seriously. “There’s definitely something up with that club; I want to disguise myself as their usable target, it’s just that…”

“It’s just that you want to pretend to be in a mess, all the better if you look like someone with DiD5 at one glance,” Zhan Zhao finished his sentence, “am I right?”

“Ha ha.” Ma Han scratched his head a little embarrassedly. “Dr. Zhan, you really can read minds… I’m worried the person manipulating others is also a professional and can see through my pretence with one look.”

“Are you sure you want to go? It can be very dangerous, plus it's very tiring to pretend to be mentally ill!” Zhan Zhao asked Ma Han solemnly.

“Mhm!” Ma Han nodded his head vigorously.

“Alright!”

Then, Zhan Zhao sat down and gave Ma Han a detailed breakdown of the causes of DiD, specific behaviour, characteristics, etc… Not just Ma Han, but even Bai Yutang and Bai Chí who were listening by the side felt their heart tremble at the sound of all of it.

After two hours, Zhan Zhao gave Ma Han a satisfied pat on the shoulder as he said, “You’re all set!”

Ma Han jumped to hit feet happily, “I’ll make my move in the afternoon!”

“Hold on!” Bai Yutang stopped him before he could leave. “Test it out first before you go!”

“Test it?” The other three looked at him at the same time. “How?”

Bai Yutang pointed Ma Han to Zhan Zhao’s office next door. “Later, I’ll get someone to go in, you have to make him believe that you have DiD, only then will I agree to let you go undercover!”

Ma Han walked confidently into Zhan Zhao’s office while Bai Yutang yelled at his door, “Zhao Hu~~~”
(lilies: oh you poor boy)

Zhao Hu ran in with a coffee in his hand. “What’s the matter, Captain?”

Bai Yutang sighed, “Do you and Ma Han know each other well?”

Zhao Hu answered with a nod, “Yeah.”

Zhan Zhao said to Zhao Hu with a frown on his face, “Something’s wrong with Ma Han and he won’t tell us what when we ask him. I think you’d better go take a look at him.”

“??” Zhao Hu was slightly taken aback. “What’s wrong with him? A heartbreak?”

Bai Yutang and Zhan Zhao just shook their heads. “Quickly go check up on him, he’s in the office next door.”

“Alright!” And with that Zhao Hu ran over next door, clueless of what’s to come6.

When he entered the room, he was greeted with the sight of Ma Han sitting in a daze, staring at the ceiling; his eyes empty.

“What’s wrong, Bro?” Zhao Hu asked as he approached Ma Han while sipping on his coffee.

Ma Han lowered his head slowly to look Zhao Hu in the eyes. “What do I do? I think it’s gonna be over for me.”

Zhao Hu continued drinking his coffee. “Hey, come on now, it’s not like it’s your first break up.”

Ma Han stared at him silently for a moment before slowly opening his mouth. “I think a woman is living in my body…”
“Ptoo~~~~” Zhao Hu spit his mouthful of coffee all over Ma Han’s face.

Ten minutes later, Ma Han walked out of the office leisurely and took his leave after making a V-sign at Zhan Zhao and Bai Yutang who were waiting at the door.

Zhan Zhao and Bai Yutang immediately went into the office, to see Zhao Hu sitting blankly on the sofa like he had received a big blow.

“Hu-zi, are you alright?” Bai Yutang whispered a question.

“Ah~~” Zhao Hu looked at Bai Yutang before shifting his gaze onto Zhan Zhao. “Dr.~~~~ you have to take a good look at me, I think I might have dissociated too…”
…—口—

Bai Yutang pointed at the door and said, “Um, just now, Ma Han…”

“Oh!” Zhao Hu nodded and blurted without a second thought, “He dissociated really well!”

Zhan Zhao acknowledged his answer and asked him in turn, “What about you?”

Zhao Hu cocked his head to one side. “I… I think I dissociated too…”

Bai Yutang pulled Zhan Zhao back outside and closed the door for Zhao Hu. The two of them kept a poker face as they returned to Bai Yutang’s office and closed the door.

Three seconds later, everyone heard a burst of thunderous laughter erupt from Bai Yutang’s office. Even Bai Chí was holding his stomach, laughing so hard he could not stand up straight… In this moment of laughter, everything was pure and simple.

1. Written as "多年的媳妇熬成婆" which directly translates to a daughter-in-law finally "upgrading" to the rank of a mother-in-law after many years (of suffering). so the meaning is basically that there's something good at the end of one's suffering
2. Written as "下马威" which means to show who's boss.
3. Because the name is already written in english in the raws, Bai Yutang repeats it a second time in chinese and I feel that interpreting in this way makes sense?
4. Is this what it's called? For those that are kinda like a scholarship but from a rich person instead of like a school of public organisation
5. Dissociative identity disorder
6. Written as "屁颠屁颠" which if I really had to translate exactly would be something like "skip in their walk". According to baidu, it's usually used to describe the walk of children—lively and without a care in the world. yep, something to that extent…

Please feedback to me in the comments below if you find any typos or terrible grammar, etc that you think I should change. Or maybe you think my interpretation is completely off lol Help me help you have a better reading experience ahahah what a tongue twister XD
