It's Thursday but this isn't an update for Watashi no Shiawase na Kekkon unfortunately. After much thought, as you can see from the title, I will be removing my translations in the next 24 hours and this post is to notify and explain why.
I don't like drama but drama seems to like me lol... This is will be the last time that I will be commenting on this matter.

The trigger for my decision is due to the exchange below:
Was there really a need to resort to name-calling because someone had a differing point of view from yours? Not everyone might have the means to purchase the books and learn Japanese, and that's no reason to belittle them for being fake supporters. I do not know why you think being able to read both the draft (web) version and the published version puts you on higher moral ground, nor do I know why you're targeting me specifically, out of the numerous translators. But seeing that you're a translator as well, may I ask if you're a fan translator? If you are, your "real" free fan translation, if anything in comparison, is nothing but the lesser of two evils but it doesn't make it "good".
I had hoped that this blog could be a place for me to indulge in my hobby of translating to cope with my negative emotions and one where I can share what I enjoy so that others can enjoy it too. However, having to face being threatened by this person once, opens the doors for a second time for this novel and I do not have the mental capacity to deal with it. Hence, I will be removing my translations on this blog to rid it of something that now brings me stress even though it once brought me joy.
I'm sorry to the fans of this story for my weakness. I love this novel as well and it pains me to remove my hard work along with all the comments and support that all of you have given me from this blog. But I just can't

This is sad, I liked this story and I really looked forward to Thursdays just to read the new chapters. As you said, I don't read Japanese (English is not my mother language either, I'm still learning), so this blogs are my window to this world. It was good while it lasted, but your mental health is important too. Thanks for all the chapters you traslated it and published so far, do you think you could write a summary about how the story ends?
ReplyDeleteA comment-like summary, like we were talking about the final chapter of the novel, that's not a crime haha just to know how everything ends. On a side note: don't call it weakness. You're just being practical, that's not a war you have to fight.

DeleteThe major climax is Miyo being kidnapped by Kaya and Kanoko. And the result of their action was their house burning down, Shinichi and Kanoko sending away all of the servants of the Saimori house. Shinichi and Kanoko also moved to a house in the outskirts while Kaya was sent to be an apprentice (servant?) at a very strict household. Kouji is still engaged to Kaya so he is still the prospective head of the Saimori family. He decided to train and better himself and Kiyoka said that depending on Kouji’s growth, there’s a possibility of the Saimori family’s position being restored.
And then, the entire volume ends with a proposal (kind of) and a promise between the two of them.
I have a question, where can I read the translated version of the light novel??

I am more than shocked regarding the comments you have received. I mean he himself claims that he is also translating for free as you are as well. Donation is not equal to payments (but I don't want to get into details in this). English is my second language and I started to learn Japanese, but due to work and school I can't really focus on it which saddens me. If I could I would support the author, but I can't enjoy the published version as I can't just type all the kana's and translate it nearly word by word/phrase by phrase.

I am so shocked that there are people who can be so rude and arrogant over a simple donation button. It's such a shame that this novel will be dropped. I'm ever grateful to lilies for introducing me to this wonderful story. It's one of my favorite ones, and the fact that I will not see another chapter translated this week pains my heart. I'm so sad about this news. I'm also one of those fans that unfortunately can't read japanese (and English isn't my mother language either) and I really looked forward to your updates every thursday. It was even better because it was free. If an official English version ever came out, unfortunately I also wouldn't be able to contribute and buy it, because I don't have the means to. Dollar is too expensive if compared to my country's currency. So you were my angel, who worked hard for us and posted new chapters every week.

Thank you for all the hard work you've done in this series so far! Of course, your mental health should be your utmost priority, though this news saddens all of us here. Some people can really be assholes and worse with that holier-than-thou attitude of theirs. I was following this since day one and I love how you explained things that are confusing. If I could just read such characters I would've bought the ebook but sadly I can't so I'm here reading fan translations instead cause the chances of this being officially translated to English is zero.

ReplyDeleteOn another note, I am running a project called "Novel Wars" where readers get to suggest and vote on dropped novels that they would like to read more chapters for. Our translators only translate 8k characters for the selected novels and post them in hopes that other translators would notice and be interested in picking them up. In other words, we simply promote the novel's that are dropped. Watashi no Shiawase na Kekkon was recently submitted and will most likely be the winner of our current round, but before that, I wanted to confirm if it's alright for us to include it as a part of NW, since it's clear that you were forced to drop it.

ReplyDeleteI actually made an account because I noticed the novel was taking down. I’m kinda baffled when this happens because I’ll be frank and honest if the novel was available on BookWalker global I’d have brought it. But it’s not....I wouldn’t know this novel existed with out translations like yours and others so I’m confused at how they want us to buy the original that we can’t read or have no access to. I have taken two years of Japanese and still wouldn’t be able to read these books. But I’m also expected to learn Korean and Chinese as well I guess? I’d never get around to reading them till 8years plus.
ReplyDeleteSo when translations are made I do enjoy learning about these novels being out there and hoping they get English releases I wish there was more services like book Walker for all the novels that are not for English speakers. So I always appreciate the work but feel sad when translators are bullied or threatened over simply drowning attention to these books. I was actually loving this story and since it’s JP I would hope one day BW would pick it up when ever that would be.

Hello, I just found the manga of this online, and have been consumed by an insatiable need for more. I understand that I cannot understand your difficulties, but i implore you to restore the currently translated chapters. Perhaps dump them into a folder available for download? I apologise if you feel that i am asking a lot, but again, i must ask this of you. I am unable to purchase copies official copies due to being a poor minimum wage worker in the middle of quarantine. Translation of quality novels like these make up most of my enjoyment. I'm not asking you to continue translating, but I am asking you to make the translations available somewhere.

DeleteI think there's nothing wrong with translating from Syosetu unless the author stated otherwise. It DOES indeed wrong to translate from the buyable version especially when you're doing it without the author's permission. But for some cases, the author actually allowed for fantranslation to translate their work (the last case I remember was “I Favor The Villainess”)

ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that. Though, a part of me wonders if some other translators purposely wrote that in order to hijack this novel from you to translate it themselves. While you may not be looking for profits, there are some translators out there who do and will beg for money to do it. Anyway, time will tell if this novel gets "miraculously" picked up by some other translation groups.
