Chapter 41 - Extra 2 When The Princess Caught a Cold
Ding Sheng had caught a cold.
Headache, sneezing, runny nose, weakness all over—he felt like death,
The bizarre thing was that from Dishang Huai, down to the Lich King, none of
them had the right medicine or spell to treat him. Ding Sheng guessed that
something as trivial as a cold was incomprehensible to this magical world.
The old Lich King tremblingly assured Dishang Huai that it was nothing
serious and that Ding Sheng would recover soon enough after taking a good
rest.
Dishang Huai's expression, however, remained grim.
Ding Sheng lay weakly on the bed, hugging the duvet as he whimpered softly
in discomfort.
After the Lich King had left, Dishang Huai walked over and sat by the bed.
He leaned down to gently hold Ding Sheng in a soft embrace. "Are you feeling
any better, Your Highness?"
Ding Sheng turned to look at Dishang Huai with wide eyes, the corners of his
eyes red, and mumbled, "Not even a little. I feel terrible."
Dishang Huai tenderly kissed his forehead, a hint of a teasing smile playing
at the corners of his eyes. "Do you genuinely feel bad this time? You're not
lying to me?"
(lilies: our boi Dishang's head is in the gutter. Ding Sheng
is sick but he's still thinking of other things in bed (。>\\<))
Ding Sheng seemed to remember something and his face suddenly flushed red.
Then he bashfully turned away and buried his face in the pillow. "I really
feel bad; I'm not lying."
Dishang Huai chuckled softly, then turned him over again and kissed him. "I
know. Be good and take a nap, my princess, you'll feel better after you
sleep." With that, he raised his hand and gently placed it over Ding Sheng's
eyes.
Ding Sheng felt that Dishang Huai could be a little too much at times. With
no choice but to give in, he shut his eyes and surrendered, "Ung, I've
closed my eyes. Stop staring at me."
Dishang Huai tucked him in snugly, and only after making sure that Ding
Sheng was really resting as he was told did he quietly slip away.
The next day, despite the glorious sunshine, Ding Sheng still felt sore all
over. Lying in bed, hugging the blankets, he squirmed and groaned in bed,
unwilling to get up.
Dishang Huai looked on helplessly. In the end, he had no choice but to take
matters into his own hands. He sat on the bed, scooped Ding Sheng up, and
started dressing him. As he helped him into his clothes, he coaxed softly,
"The sun is bright and shining today. Going out for some sunshine will do
you some good, hmm?"
Ding Sheng neither cooperated nor resisted—he simply slumped lazily in
Dishang Huai's arms, letting him do as he pleased.
Halfway through getting dressed, Ding Sheng suddenly realised something was
wrong. He turned to look at Dishang Huai with an accusing glare. "Dishang
Huai, you’ve dressed me in a dress again!"
Dishang Huai's face was the picture of innocence as he hugged Ding Sheng and
said matter-of-factly with a smile, "But Your Highness looks adorable in a
dress." Then he planted a kiss on the top of the other party's head to
comfort him, "Your Highness is cute no matter what, but I just love seeing
you all dressed up."
Ding Sheng didn't feel soothed by his words at all.
Folk tales about the Demon God's lover had always been rather vague. In some
versions, the lover was male, in others female, but always with a stunning
appearance and a temper to match. It was also said that whenever the lover
got angry, they would order the Demon God to curse the human world. Over
thousands of years, these tales had evolved, and the handsome, powerful
Demon God had somehow morphed into a plain, weak-willed, henpecked husband.
Ding Sheng: What did I say? Stuff like legends are all a bunch of lies.
And all this was due to Dishang Huai's occasional bouts of mischief.
Seeing that Ding Sheng appeared all unhappy, Dishang Huai pressed his lips
together in a smile, dimples instantly appearing on his cheeks. Wrapping his
arms around Ding Sheng, he whispered in the man's ear, "Alright, alright,
it's my fault. How about we just don't wear clothes at all?"
Ding Sheng found himself mesmerised by those dimples and almost nodded in
agreement before realising what Dishang Huai had actually said.
He quickly
put on a stern face and shook his head, "No! Dishang Huai, just what is
going on in your head all day?!"
At the same time, he mentally patted himself on the back—Dishang Huai’s
smile was absolutely deadly. Luckily, he had iron willpower as strong as the
Monkey King's golden staff which stopped him from falling for Dishang Huai's
charms. Dishang Huai was practically a superpowered Demon God version of
Daji[1].
Seeing Ding Sheng's ears and eyes turn red with embarrassment, only then did
Dishang Huai contentedly kiss the corner of Ding Sheng's eye and skilfully
dressed him in a set of robes.
Then, he scooped Ding Sheng into a princess-style carry and took him out to
a white ornate chair in the small garden where he set him down.
Ding Sheng remained blushing the whole time as he tightly clung to Dishang
Huai's neck.
The sunlight was warm and cosy. The two sat side by side on the chair, their
hands naturally finding each other and interlocking.
With a gentle breeze blowing, Ding Sheng felt so comfortable he was on the
verge of dozing off again.
In his drowsy state, he heard Dishang Huai say with a smile in his voice,
"Your Highness, there have been many times in the past when my greatest wish
was to sit with you like this in the sun. You would drift off to sleep and
when you woke, you'd open your eyes and smile at me.
"Ding Sheng, I miss you."
Ding Sheng's eyes opened wide, slightly stunned as he turned around to look
at the man beside him.
Dishang Huai looked at him with a gentle smile, squeezing his hand a little
tighter. "Your Highness, I will always be with you and I'll never leave you
alone again."
Centuries, millennia, and aeons passed, and the world had changed like
shifting clouds in the wind. Everything had long since transformed beyond
recognition. Yet, when he turned to look at the person beside him, it felt
as if nothing had changed—as if he was still that ordinary young man in the
library. Gentle and quiet as he stood among the shelves, smiling as he
watched him leave.
Ding Sheng closed his eyes, fighting the tears that pricked at the corners,
and squeezed Dishang Huai’s hand in return.
"You dummy… Me too."
Perhaps it takes more courage to accompany someone for an eternity than
to die with them.
Then so be it, I will spend this life, with you, for eternity.
Dishang Huai smiled, his eyes narrowing in contentment. "I knew it. My
princess has always liked me."
Ding Sheng’s eyes immediately snapped open as he declared firmly, "No, I
haven't!"
Dishang Huai: "Alright, alright, it's me who's always liked you…"
Ding Sheng: "Well, of course it is…"
…
The afternoon breeze was gentle, and the garden of the Demon God’s estate
was peaceful.
The Demon God cradled his exhausted, sleeping lover in his arms. His eyes
curved into a smile, revealing those dimples once more, as he planted a soft
kiss on his lover's forehead.
"I love you, my princess."
