The Numbers Killer - Chapter 18 Confusion
By the time Zhan Zhao and Bai Yutang rushed to the airport, it was already 1 AM in the morning. And the Arrival Hall was virtually empty. The two made a few rounds around the place but saw no sign of Bai Jintang.
"Where is he?" Bai Yutang asked while looking around.
"Maybe he left by himself?" Zhan Zhao suggested.
"That's unlikely. He would always wait for me."
"Have you ever been 12 hours late before?"
"...Well, no..." Bai Yutang scratched his head, "My previous record was 8 hours."
"Where will he go?" Zhan Zhao said as he checked his watch, "Last I remember, he doesn't have a house here."
Bai Yutang shrugged, "He only comes back once or twice a year, so he usually stays in my dorm."
"What if he went to find you?"
"That's even worse! He has absolutely no sense of direction!"
"Have you ever been 12 hours late before?"
"...Well, no..." Bai Yutang scratched his head, "My previous record was 8 hours."
"Where will he go?" Zhan Zhao said as he checked his watch, "Last I remember, he doesn't have a house here."
Bai Yutang shrugged, "He only comes back once or twice a year, so he usually stays in my dorm."
"What if he went to find you?"
"That's even worse! He has absolutely no sense of direction!"
"Call him?"
"He doesn't carry a cellphone... Usually, his subordinates hold on to it."
"Subordinates? I've never seen him with anyone around him."

"That's because he doesn't bring them with him when he comes back to the country."
Then there was nothing Zhan Zhao could do, "Let's call the police..."
"I think... I am the police..."

Just as the two were at a loss as to what to do, a "meow~" came from Bai Yutang's phone——a message?
Zhan Zhao leaned in to take a look as well as he took out his phone. It was a message from Zhao Hu: ">_< |||||||| There's a fire…"
Bai Yutang looked up at Zhan Zhao, "What's that supposed to mean?"
Zhan Zhao shook his head, just as puzzled.
"Meow~"
Another one.
A message from Jiang Ping: "╥﹏╥ …return quickly"
The two exchanged a look... what an ominous feeling...
17th floor of the police station, the Medical Examiner's Office.
A gleaming scalpel lands with a cold flash of light and the bones, tendons, muscles and fat were all separated into pieces.
The bloody mixture of meat was then poured into a white slurry-like mixture.
Lighting up the spirit lamp, setting up the heating furnace and pouring in a yellow flammable liquid.
Picking up the sticky flesh and placing it in the bubbling liquid, a cloud of smoke rises with a hissing sound.
After a while, the body parts had turned golden-brown and taken out to be stir-fried in a thick red sauce... after adding some spring onion, it is then served in a beaker.
Gongsun leaned against the dissection table with a report in hand, reading the report while eating a piece of sweet and sour pork ribs with a pair of tweezers.
Everyone standing by the door rushed to the restroom while covering their mouth with their hands. Only Bai Jintang remained at the door, still as refined and composed. Gongsun glanced up at him and asked while tapping on the beaker with his tweezers, "Do you want some?"
After taking a deep breath, Bai Jintang replied calmly, albeit the lost of colour on his face, "I don't eat sweet stuff."
"I can also make Mapo Tofu. Wanna try?"
...Bai Jintang shook his head silently...
"Bleurgh~~~" Everyone who just returned from the restroom, happened to hear this and... they immediately turned back on their tracks and went back to the restroom.
Bai Yutang and Zhan Zhao were rushing back on the double.
"Meow~"
Yet another text.
"Read it, Cat!" Bai Yutang had both hands on the steering wheel, so he gestured for Zhan Zhao to grab the phone from his pocket.
This time, it was from Zhang Long: ">口< @@@@@@@ Save me!"
"Meow~"
Another one?
From Ma Han: "-O-~~~~~~~~~ Help!!"
Zhan Zhao looked rather baffled by the messages, "What on earth are they trying to say?"
Bai Yutang said with a sigh, "I think I'd better speed up."
When the people who were done puking came out from the washroom, they were greeted with the sight of Bai Jintang sitting on a large suitcase, staring into space.
Zhao Hu approached him enthusiastically and offered, "Bro, why don't you wait inside? I'll help you carry your luggage in."
Bai Jintang got up and Zhao Hu reached for the biggest suitcase.
He couldn't lift it with one hand... With both hands... He still couldn't do it.
"I'll handle this one. How 'bout you help me with the smaller one?" With that, Bai Jintang easily lifted the largest suitcase with one hand.
......
"Meow~"
Zhao Hu's text: " @口@……Why??"
"What do you think happened?" Zhan Zhao asked curiously as he read through these short messages.
"Hold on tight, Kitty!" and Bai Yutang stepped on the gas pedal.
......
Zhao Hu, who took a hit to his pride, picked up the smaller baggage which was a black rectangular box with some holes on it.
Suddenly, the box moved by itself.
??
Zhao Hu thought it was weird. What was inside? Taking a closer look... there seems to be a latch and he reached out open it...
With a loud bang, a ball of fluff came flying out.
"AaaAaaah!!"
Following Zhao Hu's scream, everyone was greeted with the sight of a raccoon-like creature bursting out from the box.
"Catch it!" Bai Jintang shouted as he rushed out.
All they could say was, Bai Jintang was indeed Bai Yutang's older brother, or maybe he's just used to being in charge. With one order, everyone, except Gongsun, went running after the "raccoon".
In an instant, the hallway outside S.C.I. was in chaos.
At that moment, the elevator doors opened with a 'Ding' to reveal an imposing middle-aged man with a dark complexion...
Seeing the mess beyond the lift doors, with Zhao Hu and Zhang Long on the floor, Wang Chao and Ma Han stuck to the wall and Jiang Ping holding a broom... After about 10 seconds of silence, Bao Zheng calmly pressed on the button for the elevator doors to close.

"Meow~"
With one hand on the handle on the roof of the car and the phone in the other, Zhan Zhao said, "Guess who it's from this time."
The words "From: Bao Zheng" were clearly displayed on the screen.
Bai Yutang raised his eyebrow, "Maybe let's not read that?"
Zhan Zhao leaned in to take a look as well as he took out his phone. It was a message from Zhao Hu: ">_< |||||||| There's a fire…"
Bai Yutang looked up at Zhan Zhao, "What's that supposed to mean?"
Zhan Zhao shook his head, just as puzzled.
"Meow~"
Another one.
A message from Jiang Ping: "╥﹏╥ …return quickly"

When the lift doors opened on the 17th floor, before they could exit the lift, a ball of fluff pounced at them.
Zhan Zhao caught it instinctively and the little thing took the opportunity to comfortably tuck itself in Zhan Zhao's arms before releasing a satisfied, "Meow~~"
Zhan Zhao looked at Bai Yutang and asked, "Another message?"
Bai Yutang pointed to the creature in his arms and replied, "I think it came from that."
Zhan Zhao looked down to see a raccoon-like cat curled up in his arms, "A ragdoll cat?"
"Meow~~" That cat seemed to like Zhan Zhao a lot as it affectionately nuzzled against his neck and even licked his chin.
"Hey!" Bai Yutang picked up the cat by its neck.

"Myaaaah~" The cat flashed its claws intimidatingly, wanting to scratch him.
"Leader! Don't let go of it!" Zhao Hu shouted from outside the elevator while holding onto the box.
Bai Yutang lifted his head, only to see that the office was in shambles, the members were dishevelled... He erupted with an enraged roar, "What's with this cat!"
Just as he was about to exit the elevator with the cat, he heard a charismatic voice from down the hallway, "The cat is called Ruben, a Burmese Ragdoll. He's a present for Zhan Zhao."
Bai Yutang immediately froze.
He could tell how angry Bai Jintang was just from the sound of his voice. That tone... He had just taken an 11-hour flight, waited at the airport for 12 hours and the S.C.I. must have been a mess just now... Which meant that his brother hasn't rested for 24 hours and the lack of sleep would make him incredibly irritable.
"Cat, catch!" Bai Yutang retreated back into the lift in an instant, closing the elevator doors with a single thought in mind, "Run!"
However, just before the elevator doors shut.
Bam!
A pair of hands stopped it.
Zhan Zhao backed into a corner of the lift, hugging the cat in his hands tightly, while Bai Yutang pressed on the close button desperately, but...
That pair of powerful hands had already forcefully opened the lift doors. Bai Jintang peeked inside with a terrifying smile on his face, "It's been a long time... Yutang."
"Ge... Please calm down..." as he retreated to Zhan Zhao's side, "Kitty, say something!"
Zhan Zhao ran to the other corner of the lift with the cat in his arms and pointed to Bai Yutang while saying to Bai Jintang who was utterly livid, "This has nothing to do with me! He's over there!"
"Damn Cat... You're disloyal!"
Seeing Bai Jintang enter the elevator with a smile, it reminded Bai Yutang of a scene straight out of a horror movie...

"Get out, Xiao Zhao!" Bai Jintang trapped Bai Yutang in the corner of the lift while making a small path for Zhan Zhao to leave.
Zhan Zhao ran out with the cat in hand, but not before pressing the close button and saying, "Da Ge! I'll close the door for you!"
"Cat! Don't go! AAAaaaaAAAh!" As the elevator doors shut, Bai Yutang's screams reverberated throughout the entire building.
While the rest of the S.C.I. team froze in place, Gongsun leaned against the door to the autopsy room as he ate the last piece of ribs.
Zhan Zhao caressed the cat while the screams in the elevator continued. He felt a little guilty about it...
"Rest in peace, Mouse."
In the Commissioner's Office, Bao Zheng tried to ease his furrowed brows as he shook his head in resignation. He then opened a drawer from his desk.
